Amazon’s Amazing Kindle Growth Chart, 2012 Edition
Last September at Amazon’s Kindle launch event in New York, Jeff Bezos showed this amazing chart of Kindle e-book sales just edging past Amazon’s physical book sales. What a difference a year makes. Here’s a screenshot from today’s Amazon Kindle event in L.A.
Note that physical book sales continue to increase, though their growth rate has decelerated. But the big picture is that Kindle books are selling way faster than physical books, helped by things like cheaper Kindle devices and the Kindle Fire.
That said, the growth rate seems to be flattish now, with tiny curves in the line suggesting mild acceleration and deceleration. And my prediction a year ago that Amazon’s Kindle sales “could be double its physical book sales in a year or so” has not come true yet. (It is, as usual, hard to take any chart that lacks a y-axis label too seriously. But I assume it’s accurate.)
Still, pretty cool.
