A Billion And Back: 8 Years Of Apple iPod Sales
Here’s an interesting (if relatively unimportant) data point from Apple’s September quarter earnings: iPod sales fell below $1 billion for the first time in 8 years, since the September 2004 quarter.
Since then, the iPod business had 31 quarters in a row of billion-dollar-plus sales, before falling to $820 million this past quarter.
iPod sales will almost certainly pop above $1 billion this current quarter, led by the Christmas rush and a new iPod touch and iPod nano. Last December quarter, iPod revenue was $2.5 billion. Assuming the same ~25% decline in recent quarters, iPod sales will probably fall to about $1.9 billion this quarter.
