The cable guys win again
Good summary by Peter Kafka why Apple isn’t going to change the TV business anytime soon. (Context: A WSJ article reporting that Apple is talking with the cable companies about some sort of Apple TV “box”.)
If you want to use a theoretical Apple TV of the future, you’re still going to end up paying someone a monthly fee for a bundle of channels, the majority of which you don’t watch.
Btw, that’s okay! For most of us, all Apple needs to do now is change the user interface to make a big improvement. That’s mostly what the first iPhone did. Any more ambitious stuff — apps as channels, etc. — can always evolve over time.
