Businessweek: Inside Google’s Motorola
Good article by Brad Stone and Peter Burrows. Did you know:
- Apple tried to hire Dennis Woodside, the Google vet now running Motorola, to become its head of sales. So much for that Apple-Google no-poaching agreement.
- Google hired a former head of DARPA, Regina Dugan, to “build a small, lean, skunkworks-like group that is not afraid of failure”. (This is one of the biggest opportunities for Motorola under Google: Actually inventing stuff again.)
- Google acquired Mike & Maaike, a SF design studio that has helped design multiple Android phones, including the early BlackBerry-looking prototype.
