Steve “People don’t read anymore” Jobs bio sells more than 400,000 copies in first week
TheBookSeller reports: (via The Next Web)
Walter Isaacson’s biography of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs sold 379,000 copies in the US in its first week on bookshop shelves, BookScan US data has revealed.
Add another 37,000 from the U.K. and you’re well past 400,000.
Meanwhile, here’s Steve Jobs in 2008, speaking about the Amazon Kindle, via Gizmodo:
“It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore… The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”
For context, Apple did sell about 10 times more iPhone 4S devices on its opening weekend… but it’s still the best start for a new book in about a year. (And, of course, Jobs was probably posturing to a degree — a couple years later, Apple launched its own e-book store.)
